“Led by artistic partner Jeffery Meyer, this program’s beating heart is Jessie Montgomery’s Five Freedom Songs for voice and strings. Montgomery explores material from five spirituals, using their origin and social context to weave her powerful story. Northwest Sinfonietta collaborates with the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association for a side-by-side performance of Tchaikovsky’s timeless Serenade for Strings, and the concert opens with a new work by composer Quinn Mason.”
